How much should tickets cost for a 50/50 fundraiser?

We are hosting a silent auction and I am planning to have a 50/50 but I am not sure how much to sell the tickets for... I have been told that 50/50's can make alot of $$ but I have no idea where to start with money. If you have participated in one and know I would appreciate it if you could give me insight. Thanks!

Basically you are selling tickets for a chance to win the pot of cash. I personally have not done one but I'll tell you what I know. Pot consists of money raised by ticket sales I think to make it interesting it should be $200 plus Ticket price $5.00 now you need to advertise this before event so I might try something like" 50/50 drawing just 5 dollars for your chance to win 50% of our POT O' GOLD minumum xxxxxxxx As for the min amt that is something yur org needs to be prepared to front. Don't know your target audience price could be +- depends on what is the norm for other groups in area. Remember half goes to winner and half to your org. Personally I think more $$$ can be made with auction items how are you doing getting items from merchants? Don't forget travel agents, golf courses, spas, ticket agents almost any independant merchant is a target and offer them a LINE LISTING in your program plus a chance to display their brochures business cards etc. Don't forget your local Mary Kay, Avon, Princess House,Tupperware reps also BIG SELLING items if you don't know any yourself ask you friends, Moms etc e-mail me for more info. I don't mind it keeps my brain active thinking about this stuff.
